I'm not confident that they'd put the KARATE KID cover on the LEGION ARCHIVES 12 backside but what I'm hoping for is #219 (my FIRST S&LoSH!), #221, 223, and KK1. IP: Logged |

After the last few contests, this selection strikes me as for the most part a bunch of confused-looking, stiffly-drawn covers. And I liked this title so much at the time... I'm going with: Near misses: IP: Logged |

I think that they'll put KK # 1 on the back cover if for no other reason than to let the casual buyer know that it's in the book. It might even pique someone's interest. IP: Logged |

Since I bought all these issues when they first came out (well actually I was a subscriber at the time), and since I'm behind on my LSH archives, I'm not going to be getting this archive any time soon--but I'll play. Just on what I like--what gives me a buzz of puberty memories and the overall kinkiness of the Legion back then-- 216 216--look at that pose, a vague gay porn/Mandingo vibe coming from Grell 219--okay this isn't very kinky, but still the Fatal Five and the positioning of the figures on the cover--a kind of dominatrix sensation here 221--was there anything more kinky and sexually charged than Charma and her slavemaster sugar daddy Grimbor--yikes puberty mindgames 222--two big muscled young white men trying to hold back that powerful black man--Mike Grell what were you thinking???--could make a young straight boy question his orientation ahem--on second thought putting these on the back four might be too sensational for DC. I like the Karate Kid cover well enough, a nice tame fight scene. Although I think putting it on the back four would be misleading. IP: Logged |

quote: I came up with the exact same list for pretty much the same reasons. I looked at all the scans and picked each one. As I scrolled down, I was surprised that only 2 other people picked these 4 because, IMO, they stuck out more than the others. Karate Kid because the cover is a nice layout, plus the historical significance of the first solo Legionnaire title (not counting Super-titles). Tyroc for his first appearance and 219 for the Fatal Five. I picked 223, not because of the Time Trapper, but because it was a strong cover, but Time Trapper is a nice bonus. IP: Logged |

As we head down the home stretch, this quartet has been cited repeatedly and leads the selections: KK1 (by about 2 to 1, the board thinks this will make the cut) Bringing up the rear - 218, with Tyroc taking on "The Secret Villain the World Never Knew", has garnered only 2 votes so far. And since the GCD seems to be on the blink again, let me try yet another set of links (thanks to Corrosive Kid for the tip!):

Ok, I'm kinda new around here, and don't really know much about the Legion, but I figured I'd give this a try. Disclaimer: since I know absolutely nothing about the Legion at this point in their history, these guesses are nothing more than the covers I think are the coolest looking. Here goes: 215 (cool cover with Sun Boy and Superboy) 219 (Fatal Five) 223 (Time Trapper) KK 1 (I actually think this is a cool looking cover). The rest of them, as has been stated, are all a bit uninspired, to say the least. IP: Logged |

Oh so close! On the back 4: 213 (Space Monster - "Jaws of Fear" There were 8 posters who had 3 out of 4, and receive honorable mention: RIC, Carsda, Cloneranger, Hack, Steve J., James Friel, Kamandi2, and Mike the Hux. While I did not pick up this volume (I'm still catching up the LSH), it may interest some people that by the placing of the back 4, the Karate Kid story will most likely show up in the order of its publication, not where it comes in continuity. If James Friel changes one number (#222 -->#223) then he would be the winner! Oh many of you are sooo close! Congrats! IP: Logged |

Alright! 3 out of 4!! You know, on Archive Days, I feel like it used to feel as a kid, finding that long awaited comic book on the racks! Most comics these days don't give me that anticipation/thrill, but the archives still do! I love getting on this board in the afternoon of an Archive Day to read confirmation that the book is actually on the shelves! Time to go to my comic shop! Ric IP: Logged |

I can't believe they didn't put Tyroc on the back cover. What were they thinking? This was Tyroc's moment! IP: Logged |

quote: Amen! I know he's on the cover, but I thought one of his appearances would make the back 4... He doesn't appear on a cover again until somewhere in the 260s... IP: Logged |
